“SWEET SWAP” Success

October 18, 2011

Just a quick note to thank everyone who came out to SWAP their SWEETS for Operation Gratitude.

Some of you may have known that we were collecting candy in conjunction with the City Of Clearwater-Long Center, for OPERATION GRATITUDE who will in turn send the candy in care packages to our troops who are stationed overseas.

As of 7p.m. yesterday we collectively collected over 600lbs of candy! (minus a few reeses cups that followed me back to my office, via my pocket!)

A big thank you to all my patients who brought candy and spread the word to their friends and family.

Baynews 9 came out and did a story about the Sweet Swap on Monday and it was featured in the news as well as on their website. You can also see the clip on our Facebook page.

Cheers!

If I had Dental Insurance, I Would Go To the Dentist

March 4, 2011

“If I had Dental Insurance, I would go to the dentist” … “If I had Dental Insurance, I would have all my dental work done” …

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard those two statements, I would be RICH! Every time I hear someone make those statements, I feel compelled to stop and explain that while having dental insurance is a good resource, but it’s not the total answer to your dental needs.

Dental Insurance is a mixed bag. I have patients who have always had dental insurance and now find themselves without and they will say it’s no big loss. It only covers certain procedures and even then, they don’t always pay and the yearly maximum benefit has remained the same for the last upmteen years they’ve carried the policy.

Then on the other hand, I have patients who have never had dental coverage, who seem to be under the impression that the lack of dental coverage is the biggest obstacle standing between them and their needed dental work.

Bad Economy + Lost Jobs + Lost Benefits = Neglected, Broken Teeth and Costly Dental Emergencies
With the recent downturn in the economy, more and more patients have lost benefits such as dental insurance and some patients who are retired have lost dental coverage as a benefit completely. So is there a viable solution to this problem?

YES!
Stay tuned for a Big Announcement From Prior Cosmetic & Family Dentistry n March 4, 2011…

You’re About to LOSE Your Dental Insurance Benefits

November 4, 2010

When December 31 rolls around this year there are three New Years Eve traditions you can count on:

Gorgeous fireworks will light up the sky to welcome the brand new year.

A glittering ball will drop in Times Square to the applause of a cold but enthusiastic crowd.

Millions of dollars in dental benefits will vanish – straight into the pockets of the insurance companies.

If that last “tradition” sounds more like a disaster than a celebration, you’re right. But it happens year after year – and that means people like you are literally wasting hundreds of dollars in benefits you’ve earned.

The Invisible Trap

It’s not a plot by the insurance companies. They make it clear in the information that comes with your plan that your insurance runs for a calendar year and has an annual benefit.

Unfortunately, though, they don’t bend over backwards to remind you to use your benefits before the calendar year ends or you lose them when the clock strikes midnight on New Years Eve.

Those benefits are yours – whether you paid for them yourself or got them through work (probably in lieu of a bigger paycheck). And watching them go down the drain is a pretty depressing way to start the New Year.

You’re Not Alone

You’d be amazed how often that happens, though – even to people who watch their investments carefully and drive across town for a bargain.

One big reason is that folks don’t think about the difference between health insurance and dental insurance.

  • Health insurance protects you from the high cost of treatment for serious illness. As you buy it you cross your fingers and hope you’ll never use it.
  • Dental insurance covers a big part of the cost of preventive and routine care – things like exams, cleanings and some of the cost of treating cavities – along with part of the cost of more complex treatment.

Plan to Save

When you take full advantage of your dental insurance, your benefits let you get most of your preventive care at a fraction of the cost. PLUS, that preventive care can actually keep you from needing more extensive (and EXPENSIVE) care down the road.

If you DO need more extensive dental care, you and I may be able to come up with a plan of action that lets you take full advantage of your benefits by doing some work this year (while you have benefits just waiting to be used) and after January 1.

Act Now

To make sure your benefits don’t go to waste, though, you need to act fast, because you aren’t the only one looking to have work done while your insurance will pay for a large part of it.

Every year there’s an end of year rush for appointments at our office – and some folks lose out and end up watching their unused benefits (often as much as $800 worth of benefits or MORE) go down the drain.

I hate to see that happen – which is why I’m reminding you now, in October, while there’s still time to make the most of your hard-earned benefits.
Call today to schedule an appointment so we can USE your benefits to protect your health, your budget and your smile.

TMD/TMJ (Temporomandibular Disorders)

September 4, 2010

According to the American Dental Association, more than fifteen percent of American adults suffer from chronic facial pain. Some common symptoms include pain in or around the ear, tenderness of the jaw, clicking or popping noises when opening the mouth, or even headaches and neck aches.

Two joints and several jaw muscles make it possible to open and close the mouth. They work together when you chew, speak, and swallow. These structures include muscles and ligaments, as well as the jaw bone, the mandible (lower jaw) with two joints, the TMJ’s.

Diagnosis And Treatment
A dentist can help identify the source of the pain with a thorough exam and appropriate X-rays. Often, it’s a sinus, toothache or an early stage of periodontal disease. But for some pain, the cause is not so easily diagnosed. The pain could be related to the facial muscles, the jaw ortemporomandibular joint, located in the front of the ear. Treatments for this pain may include stress reducing exercises, muscle relaxants, or wearing a mouth protector to prevent teeth grinding. They’ve been successful for many and your dentist can recommend which is best for you.

Request an appointment or call our office at (727) 796-1713 to schedule a personal consultation during your next visit.
